Measurement point layout strategy of free-form surface based on gridding using coordinate measuring machine

The layout of measurement points is the key to efficient inspection free-form surfaces. Two algorithms are proposed for surface points: Gaussian curvature variation grid method and isoparametric line method. former first divides into a uniform grid, determines number each based on change in selects within distribution curvature. latter achieved by taking from initial U- V -direction lines, generating lines divide selecting intersections as points. effectiveness algorithm was verified designing surfaces, performing coordinate measuring machine (CMM) experiments, comparing results with those existing algorithms.
